Pet Dental Care at Home

Usually, an adult dog has 42 teeth, while an adult cat has 30 teeth. It is a mistake to assume that pets' teeth somehow clean themselves. It is important to maintain oral health to avoid dental infections, tooth pain, and serious conditions such as kidney, liver, heart diseases, and even joint problems.

In the wild, animals maintain strong and clean teeth thanks to a special diet. However, the domestic diet of our furry friends doesn't provide the same benefits. Therefore, it's essential not to overlook hygiene measures that can help preserve the oral health of your beloved pet.

Some animal breeds are more prone to dental diseases than others. For example, Abyssinians and toy terriers are more prone to gingivitis (inflammation of the gums), while bulldogs, pugs, and Persian cats are prone to cavities due to the specific structure of their snouts.

A few simple steps to maintain the dental health of pets at home:

  • Proper diet

Healthy nutrition is the key not only to overall well-being but also to good dental health. A healthy animal means a strong immune system, which reduces the risk of infections in the body.

Maintaining oral health is aided by certain types of dry food (granules consist of large textured crumbs that scrape off tartar). Prebiotics also contribute to healthy teeth, as oral health begins from the inside, meaning that you should first take care of the pet's digestion. For example, fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are prebiotics that support both the health of the gastrointestinal tract and teeth.

  • Regular tooth brushing

Repeat the procedure regularly. Purchase a special brush and toothpaste for your pet. Do not use a human brush, as it can easily damage the animal's gums.

Be careful with tennis balls: the stiff bristles quickly wear down teeth, while treats such as rawhide and pig ears help remove tartar.

  • Dental care products

Numerous products for oral care for pets have been created. Tamachi products predominantly contain organic and natural components for optimal care of pets and the maintenance of their health.
